At Northbourne, ICT is an integral part of the whole curriculum. Each class has stand alone computers. There is a well equipped ICT suite with desktop and laptop computers all linked to the network. Children learn and develop specific ICT skills throughout the school, and then use and apply these skills within all other areas of the curriculum. All children learn how to access and use a variety of programmes and CDRoms. They also learn how to navigate through and search the internet. As part of Oxfordshire’s and Northbourne’s commitment to developing ICT, we have joined Digital Brain – which is a virtual learning environment accessible to all children within the county. For Digital Brain, all children have a personalised log-on, and they will be able to access Digital Brain both in and out of school. As a school, we are aware that not everyone has access to a computer or the internet at home, and we try to make our computer suite available after school hours, through such initiatives as ICT clubs and parent sessions. Children also have experience of using for example digital cameras, video cameras, digital movie cameras, creating PowerPoint presentations, editing work and using art media programmes.
