School Organisation

Starting School

Prospective parents are warmly invited to visit the school with their children. During the term before a child begins school, the class teacher makes a home visit to meet your child, to explain about school and to answer any queries that you might have. The child then has half day visits to school before the end of term.

Classroom Arrangements

Northbourne School is organised into three areas. The children are taught in mixed ability classes which are named after colours. Teaching may be in whole classes or smaller groups.

Lunch Time Arrangements

Children can either bring a packed lunch or have school dinners. The school kitchen serves a menu which follows healthy eating guidelines and is cooked on the premises. There is always a choice of main course followed by a pudding. Salads, fruit, yoghurt and cheese and biscuits are available daily.

Drinking Water

Children are welcome to bring a water bottle to school each day, which is taken into the classroom. In addition there are water fountains in the school which the children can use at break time and lunch time. Water is provided at the table while children eat their lunch.

Snack Bar

The school has a snack bar which opens at mid-morning break time. The children can buy fruit juice, milk, carrot batons, raisins or fresh fruit. Children can also bring in their own fruit or pure fruit juice but other snacks, drinks and sweets are not allowed.
