Science

Science at Northbourne is taught through practical first hand experiences and the use of good quality secondary resources.  ICT is embedded in the curriculum enriching it further.  Wherever appropriate we further extend the curriculum through experiences outside the classroom, such as using the Explorer Dome, enriching the children’s experiences.

Children in the foundation stage learn about science through following the curriculum guidance for the foundation stage where the children learn through investigation and exploring.

This learning through practical exploration is continued into years one and two.

Children in Key stage two continue to develop a questioning and reflective mind through experiencing a range of interesting and enjoyable activities.  The children develop a systematic and logical way of working.  We currently offer children in Key stage two a science club run during lunch time once a week.

How high can you make a paper stag in only half hour?

We are currently following the National Curriculum 2000 using the QCA Unit plans appropriate for each year group.  Our children do extremely well in their both Key Stage 1 and 2 SAT tests and we are extremely proud of every child’s achievements.
